MASON CITY – Police were called to a Mason City home Sunday afternoon after a convicted sex offender was reported to have violated a no-contact order, and he didn’t go quietly.

On Sunday afternoon, police were called to the area of 16th Street SW and Penn Avenue on a report that 53-year-old Mark M. Hoffman was in the vicinity and not complying with a no-contact order. The no-contact order was imposed last month after Hoffman took a plea deal in a third or subsequent domestic abuse case. He pled guilty to fighting or violent behavior and was not to come near his house at 115 16th Street SW. Hoffman is a convicted sex offender and has lived at the house since his conviction in 1995. His crime was committed against a female victim over the age of 18. His house is across the street from Lincoln and Roosevelt schools.

Mason City police and Cerro Gordo deputies arrived on the scene after the emergency call and searched for Hoffman. He was spotted, and a foot chase ensued. Hoffman was caught and loaded into a deputy’s vehicle, parked in Hoffman’s driveway. They then questioned him and he was overheard pleading his case. Officers were also seen knocking on nearby doors and speaking to neighbors about the incident.

Hoffman was arrested and taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail, charged with violating the sex offender registry, three counts of violating the no-contact order and interference with official acts. He is being held on $5,000 cash or surety bond.

WEeeell REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER for starters! The articles about that are probably here or the Globe some place.

Then he is a STALKER hence this no order contact and the various women he has terrorized. The old If I can’t have you no one can mentality. Plenty to find out about him and that’s the people who turned him in! Plenty haven’t! Sniff around you can find out all of it. One SICK freak!

ANON what has this perv done? we’d like to know so if he approaches we will be able to defend against him. I cant believe he is able to live by a school. Again our judicial system is in a bad situation by itself. I heard a guy got jail time for jay walking while intoxicated longer than most meth dealers and women beaters. They get off on suspended sentences and this old jaywalker goes to jail for a few days.

This guy is an absolute TERROR to everyone he meets!
He is the definition of terrorism!
For years! Lock him up and never let him out!

Sick real sick. The police and or judges better think long and serious about what he is capable of and they will regret it if they let him loose again.
