MASON CITY – A concerned mailman called police Wednesday afternoon, suspicious of the activities of several persons as they knocked on doors on the city’s south side.

Police received a call at about 2:15 PM from a mailman working the area of South Jefferson Avenue and 23rd Street SW. The mailman claimed that several African-American persons were walking up to doors and looking into people’s mailboxes.

Police could be seen headed to the area immediately after this call was taken; they proceeded to patrol the area. Two black females with backpacks and what appeared to be identification cards around their necks were visible, walking sepearately, waiving to people as they drove by. One of the females told an NIT reporter she was selling an all-purpose cleaner and asked were Jefferson Avenue is.

Soon, police stopped one of the females and questioned her. She called out to her companion, who approached the squad car. Both were loaded up and the officer sped away.

A few blocks away, another police car was pulled over to the side of the road, at Monroe and 20th Street SW, with an African-American male sitting in the grass next to the car. The two females sat down next to him as police continued to investigate.

Within minutes, another police squad car pulled up, with yet another black male. An older, white female was also present, being questioned. She had a ID card of some kind around her neck as well.

Soon, police searched the black suspects and loaded them into the squad cars, along with the white female. All three cars were seen headed west on 19th Street, apparently in the direction of the Cerro Gordo County Jail. No word as of yet on the charges against the suspects, if any.

North Ia Mugshots has their ages at 22, 23, 25, and 27.

We had a young man in our neighborhood, just south of east state street, going door to door selling “cleaning products”. Only thing is… it appeared that his business was not about cleaning products but who in the neighborhood was an easy target for theft or other criminal activity.

All neighbors here look out for each other as most do in town and that is one of the positive attributes of living in MC. Its our own neighborhood watch program and it works.

Marie Morrison was on 14th NW yesterday trying to sell my neighbors cleaning supplies. Then it started raining and they all disappeared. Probably went to find SUCKS so they could suck on a joint together.

Won’t be too long before you have groups of young folks out selling magazine subscriptions door-to-door.

The difference between that bunch and the bunch arrested is that the magazine hawkers have a license.

It’s a scam, but the victims are these young students who get promised untold riches if they sell enough.

Regarding the group arrested, if I were the prosecutor or cops, I would look into who was sponsoring them. I doubt if the sellers themselves were told anything about licenses.

@Matt-Minnesota plates on their car. Probably out of Minneapolis and came to small town Iowa to take advantage of the HICKS.

The man at my door selling a cleaning product was not a kid. He looked around 26 or so.

i seen these people, my dog about bit them

If your dog bit me, I would be suing your butt.

must be another group of them as we had a heavyset young black woman come to our hose and she was seen throughout the hood trying to sell some cleaning junk, I told her I would buy it if she did the cleaning and away she went just a talking shit.

There are no “hoods” in Madon City, try traveling east or west about 12-25 states. ¤

So let me get this right…theres no nieghbor”hoods” in mason city??? I mean i know its a small dumpy town but no nieghbor”hoods”? not like the guy said “our ghetto” or “projects”

Agree to disagree. There are a couple. The horseshoe is one that comes to mind off the top of my head.

@2old2fat We also had the heavier set gal come to our door at 8:45pm! I never answered the door for her. 2 days prior to her we had some guy come by with a spray bottle trying to sell stuff. Luckily a friend saw him coming and told him we weren’t interested before he got all the way over. Its a little unnerving having strangers randomly knock on your door at night. Hopefully this gets stopped soon.
