UPDATED: Cops visit same North End house 7 times in one week

MASON CITY – Police were busy keeping the peace at a North End house this week.

Records indicate that Mason City police officers visited 718 North Tyler Avenue five times between December 12th and December 19th.

The trouble began on December 12th, when police were called just before midnight to the residence for a domestic altercation. According to police, there was “a verbal dispute between subjects. Both subjects decline(d) officers suggestions and advice. Both subjects will sleep it off in two different rooms.”

The next day, officers were called back to the residence at about 3:00 PM for another domestic altercation. The “male party” Joshua Joe Jennings was arrested and charged with felony domestic abuse assault involving strangulation. Jennings posted $2,000 cash bond on December 16th and was released.

Police were called back to the residence on December 14th and December 16th to provide standbys for property recovery.

Then, on December 19th at about 1:29 AM, police were called once again to the residence for a report of suspicion.

On December 20th, officers spoke with the landlord of the residence about “tenant issues.”

On December 22nd,  resident of 718 North Tyler called police and reported that she “thought someone was messing with her outside house power box.  Officer checked the house and power box does not appear to be tamper with.  Told caller to give Alliant Energy a call.”

BOOM! Just like I said, conversation killed with facts! Now, we don’t want to be accused of censoring so just bury this article on deep in the back pages like you always do… this way no one can see how incorrect the article and some of the comments really are!

@concerned citizen-thank you for posting what all intelligent people should already know. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of ignorant people in this town that don’t believe the truth. It has really gotten better up here (at least on our block) We had a couple of people move to the south end and it made a real difference here. There are still a few rejects around and some of them like to come on here and snipe at people who are a lot smarter than them. Just saying. Thank you.

Where’s the post with “South End” in the title about the breaking and entering on 100 block 8th SW on 11/29 or the South End title about the B&E on 21st SE on 11/26… or the B&E on Silver Lane on 12/3, or the sexual assault that occurred 400 block of South Ohio on 11/26 or the B&E on 2400 S Taft, or the vehicle theft on 14 SE.

Much like the GG, NIT has their own slant, their own motives, and their own political views. I think it’s time for a new news source that provides accurate news without a personal agenda!

Here we go with the northend vs SOUTHEND. So, every time I see this, I post facts rather than rumor and it kills the conversation as there is no disputing the crime reports that is right here as a link to NIT. So, here goes.
October 24th-December 24th. Northend – 90 crime reports (51%), Southend- 86 crime reports (49%). So, for the first time since I’ve been doing this, the Northend actually has 4 more crimes or 2% higher than the South. So,Southside, you are 2% better than us. However, when you look a little closer the results change. Of the 90 reports on the NorthEnd, 37 crimes or 41% were in the downtown “cultural crescent”. So, you take the downtown bar laden commercial area out of the equation and our neighborhood area of the Northend had 33 less crimes than the Southend or restated… without the downtown area, the SouthEnd residential area had a 22% higher crime rate than the residential NorthEnd over the last 60 days.

Love the facts on this, but it won’t stop NIT from continuely putting “north end” in every related article. For a city this size, the crime rate overall is ridiculous.

Of course it won’t stop NIT from posting untrue facts about the North End. Matt lives on the South End. Therefore, anything unrelated to Matt must be evil!

Tweeker’s do get a little paranoid at times.

@Bandchy-Wow. Are you saying drugs could be involved???

Do you think something bad is going on there?

Again with the “north end” title in the headlines? What is the agenda of the continuous headline north end references? Just put Mason City in the headlines so you stop sounding like a small town gossip paper.

Well, it did happen on the North end. Just like 90% of the problems seem to originate at the north end… Why try to cloud what’s happening?

It is not just the North End. As a matter of fact, if you will just check there are more police calls in the South End of Mason City. And, if you separate the town center you will find more there than anywhere else.

Are you talking about just calls to houses, or are you lumping in business calls like shop lifting into those statistics?

@Oly-see the post by concerned citizen. He has all the facts. Where I live in the North End has gotten much better this year. All of the transplants from other states have moved to the cultural crecent in the center of town or to the south end where they thought the police wouldn’t look for them. They are everywhere and you can thank the housing authority for that.

Don’t let LVS lie to you Oly. The North end has not gotten better. Nor have all the imported blacks that now live there gone away, to live in higher priced housing.

@Oly-I did not say a word about blacks. They are certainly not the only ones who cause problems in the area and should not be blamed for all of them.

LVS – the housing authority does not choose where people on vouchers live. That choice is between the tenant & landlord only – the authority only inspects to see if the unit meets HUD requirements.

@4ever49-that is true, but they are the ones who issue the vouchers. They do not dictate what part of town they live in.

LVS – yes they issue the vouchers to those who have waited in line on a list & qualify. HUD sets the rules on this program which they follow. Those gaming the system come from elsewhere, get on the list, (usually the regional authority (which is shorter, i.e., Northwood) get approved for a voucher then return to where they came from transporting their voucher with them. That way they don’t have to wait so long on say the Chicago list.
It’s too bad they don’t put as much effort in finding a job and supporting themselves.

@4ever49-they do seem to know how to play the system. If you know this, then why can’t we get it stopped??

Really??? 90% of the problems are north end related? Get your facts together. Does the globe put “north end” in every situation that comes up? I am not sure the agenda of NIT but it does get old seeing the north end references all the time. Would it make a difference to the reader if it said Mason City home in the headlines?
