Travis Hickey, Janet Solberg, and Scott Tornquist are in the process of a crash course in black magic being taught by the master illusionist himself….Eric Bookmeyer.
These people want you to believe that they are new, never been here before they want you to believe that it wasn’t them who was sitting at that council table for the last four years. Hickey wants the people in the Second Ward to believe that he stood up to the hospital on their behalf, that he fought to compensate them for the lost equity they suffered in the value of their homes, that he was at least vocal. But the tale of the tape will prove otherwise. He sat there like a big pile of toxic waste with his head bowed capitulating to every single want and whim Mother Teresa wished for…then affirmed it with his vote.
Tornquist’s job is much harder, he needs to convince the entire town that he really cares for them….being able to pull that off would be like getting Bookmeyer to stand up in a crowd and proclaim he hated beer. Tornquist wants you to forget that he lied on camera in matters concerning the Human Rights Agency….but again it’s on tape. Are you going to vote for a person who knowingly lied? I don’t think so.
Poor Janet, the first thing she should do is look into her heart and ask the parishioners of the church she tried to shut down to forgive her. Jesus doesn’t look kindly to things like that. She can ask Scott because he said he brings Jesus to the table with him. Scott should be working in a tent with snakes. The camera was proof that Janis was there even though to the good people of the Fourth Ward it didn’t seem so. Most might want dispute that. Her greatest asset would be silence….except of course when she is required to mouth the word “yes” every time Bookmeyer requires it.
Lastly we have the grand illusionist himself. Here is the only man who has attempted to convince an entire electorate that he is going to make a hotel appear in a parking lot. If he pulls it off he’ll get his own TV show along with a stage show in Vegas. This is a man who is far better equipped to offer eyewitness reviews on every establishment in North Iowa that has a permit to disperse alcohol. We already know Eric doesn’t speak hillbilly but to compensate for that deficiency he wants us to never forget he is is quite fluent in “country club.”…..and is well qualified to interview prospective maids.
To prove you can’t be fooled, be sure to make that fact crystal clear by voting.

My only interest lies in the fact I live here, I am a property tax payer. I have no interest in being on a council or any other office. I just don’t like to see people like Bookmeyer run rough shod over this town. When you seek public office you become fair game, this is what these people asked for. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

You are out to lunch and you sure don’t follow my posts. I am in favor of debates, I don’t even vote in Mason, although I pay plenty of real estate tax here, and I don’t like or dislike any of the candidates on a personal basis. I have a passing acquaintance with the mayor, but do not agree with all his decisions. I simply do not like the way some accusations have been made on here without proof, including your accusation about infidelity. Let’s turn the clock back and unelect JFK, LBJ, and Clinton, along with countless senators and representatives. That would make me very happy.

LVS: I’m not supporting anyone in this election. I’m only asking for ideas, solutions, and CIVILITY out of the candidates and their proxies. REPEATED personal bashing of candidates is not civility and needs to be stopped. If Peat would just channel his venom into constructive op-eds, it would benefit all of us so much more. Don’t you want to know how Max plans to bring jobs to town? Don’t you want to know how City workers will really feel about painting lines on the street again? Why doesn’t Peat go out and interview people to find out what they want changed and then ask the candidates for answers. They are bellyaching about there being no debates, but that doesn’t mean someone can’t ask them questions from the public. If candidates don’t respond, that won’t make them look so good. Or is the only thing Peat wants from a new council a bunch of “no” votes on everything so ideas and solutions can be thrown out along with civility?
I hope and pray Peter keeps writing these op-eds because when people wonder what Matt stands for all they have to do is read his words.

In national advertising commercials are run on a 26 week basis, this is done to make sure those who might have been away or for whatever reason, did not see the commercial in the first place.
I think Mr. Children is applying the same principal here. He realizes there are new readers to this site on almost a daily basis, so his approach make sense.
In reading your blogs, I notice you never applaud the incumbents accomplishments; why is that? Is it because there is nothing to applaud?
