Clear Lake man jailed on felony marijuana charge

MASON CITY – An early morning traffic stop by Cerro Gordo County Sheriff deputies has led to a felony drug charge for a Clear Lake man.

Deputies made traffic contact near the intersection of Federal Avenue S & 18th Street SE in Mason City at 1:31am Thursday morning. As a result of a large quantity of marijuana found during the traffic stop 18-year-old Marcus Jamaal Hughes was arrested at the scene.

Hughes was transported and booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail shortly after 3am. Hughes has been charged with one class D felony count of possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver.

Marcus Hughes had competed on Mason City High School’s track and field team until he graduated high school in 2012.

“We the people are sick and tired of seeing our friends, family, and loved ones, locked up in cages like animals, with rapists, and murderers for possessing a non-toxic, medicinal, dried plant.”

Then do not break the law.

As far as nullification, if while sitting upon a panel there is evidence of the intention of nullification, you can be removed.

While I do not mind the concept of nulllification, there is a feeling of userping the purpose of legislature and the majority’s wishes as far as law goes. In other words, a minority could establish dismay towards a law through nullification, but it speaks only for their feelings, not the majority.

So bottom line drugheads, that means you too Peter L, it is still illegal, despite your wishes.

It’s against the law. Period. He’s just one more person who refuses to go by society’s rules.

Let me guess Norris Hughes is a relative….

So you graduate from high school and start selling dope to make money. Wonderful.

Oh so we are turning this into a legalize marijuana debate. Marijuana continues to be a gateway drug to many other serious illegal substances. However, I would vote to legalize it if drug screens including marijuana were required to obtain any government assistance including food stamps, fip, uneployment, etc. This way when all of the allegedly fully functioning pot heads of society cannot get jobs, there will be no where else to turn. Only then would they stop sitting on their porch waiting for my tax dollars to support them.

As you very well know, the REAL gateway drug is alcohol. Should we start screening welfare recipients for alcohol & cigarettes too? I really don’t want my tax money going for either of those.

Sorry I wasn’t clear in my comments. I was responding to “Jury Nullification”.

Thank you for this. I couldn’t agree more!

get to know this. They don’t tell you about it during jury duty. This was widely used at the end of alcohol prohibition to show the criminal justice system that the law is unjust.
It is happening more now in Colorado, and other medical marijuana states, where the law has been changed, but the gov’t doesn’t want to give up their marijuana monopoly (see patent #6630507).
We the people are sick and tired of seeing our friends, family, and loved ones, locked up in cages like animals, with rapists, and murderers for possessing a non-toxic, medicinal, dried plant. End prohibition 2.0 NOW!

Ask Kadyn’s parents how they feel about drivers who are drugged on pot.

He was convicted of vehicular homicide by reckless driving, not OWI. True, he tested positive for marijuana, but that doesn’t mean he was under the influence of it at the time of the accident. Iowa has zero tolerance law for metabolites so any amount over the test threshold, whether the metabolite is psychoactive or not, is sufficient to prove OWI. It relieves the State of the burden of proving the driver was under the influence of THC, which in cases whether the only metabolite detected is non-psychoactive would be impossible. If you are more than just a casual smoker, these non-impairing metabolites can remain in your system for weeks only to be revealed during a drug screen when driving while sober. Junk science on display in our courts thanks to the legislature.

@Kunstler’s ghost If they convicted people for drunk driving three weeks after they drank everyone would be crying foul.

Alcohol is rapidly eliminated from the body within hours after you stop drinking. Marijuana metabolites are stored in fat cells and are released over time.
