No injuries in six car pileup in Clear Lake Friday

by Jody Spear and Kelly Meyer –

CLEAR LAKE – Early Friday afternoon at approximately 12:45 PM, there was an accident called into the Clear Lake/Ventura Police Department involving six vehicles.

In front of Breadeaux Pizza, located at 910 Highway 18 in Clear Lake, six vehicles were bumper to bumper in perfect alignment on the inside lane by the median. There were four cars, a minivan and a SUV involved in the incident.

At the time of the call, it was unknown if there were any injuries, but airbags had been deployed. The Clear Lake Fire Department Ambulance was at the scene, but nobody needed medical attention.

A friend of the mother of the male driving the black car in back said, “He’s sore, he’s still sitting in the car.” Later the male was seen getting out of the car and walking away from the accident.

An onlooker said, “The police officers went around asking everyone if they had seen or heard anything, but nobody gave any statements.”

A comment was made, “I’m from Clear Lake, but I don’t recognized any of these cars.” Taking a closer look, three of the vehicles, the red Malibu, the white car and the gray Chevy SUV were from Hancock County, the Blue Windstar van was from Polk County and the lead blue car was from Missouri.

The first four vehicles were able to drive away from the accident and park to the side, the last two had to be taken on a flatbed provided by Happy Trails Wrecker Service out of Clear Lake.

The Iowa State Patrol was there to assist.

“all of these cars were tailgating” this is NOT a true statement. like Jason and I have discussed here before. once again the first car in the group was going to slow or stopped suddenly which actually caused the accident. if you look at photos 9,16,18, you will see that all the cars were in the fast lane and there was NO TURNING ONTO ANOTHER ROAD OR DRIVEWAY FROM THAT LANE look for yourself. what the f**k did the first blue car stop in the middle of the road for????? did they see a garage sale sign or what? they were all in the fast lane and all thought the first car knew what the hell they were doing. once again as I tried to explain to Jason. this is why everyone needs to drive the same speed. the actual cause of this accident was the blue car either not driving fast enough or stopping suddenly. which could also be called not “driving fast enough”or “driving to slow”. this accident was all the fault of the blue car as I see it from the pics.

Whether the blue car stopped in the middle of the road for whatever reason or if it didn’t, the others were at fault for at very least, Failure to Control.

Actually 50 you were just trying to justify driving at an increased speed. If you read your driver’s manual and the state laws: It is YOUR responsibility to follow in a safe assured distance (to prevent like what happened here).

“A friend of the mother of the male driving the black car in back said,”

Gotta love that quote

Tiff, if you read the article, it said there were no injuries. Stop calling us pricks please,

Since all these people are insensitive pricks i will ask, was everyone O.K.?

Fully insured means not having to care…

I think they should all be charged with failure to stop in a clear assured distance. (Except the front car.) Yes, it is a stupid arrangement for a highway, just saying, there are signs there that warn you when you approach.

was anyone charged with anything?

Isn’t that part of the highway crazier since they changed lanes from 2 to 1? It seems like cars stop more suddenly in the area where the accident was, when they realize it goes from 2 lanes to one right past the light when you’re going west).

All of these cars were obviousley tailgating.(Except maybe the front one LOL.) Learn how to drive people!Tailgaters make me nervious every day that I am on the road.
