AMES, Iowa – June 5, 2012 – The Iowa Department of Transportation, Iowa State Patrol and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will participate in the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Roadcheck 2012 June 5-7. The agencies will be working in Iowa as part of the 25th annual international truck and motor coach safety and security event consisting of 72 continuous hours of enforcement activity throughout Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Roadcheck is the largest targeted enforcement program directed to commercial motor vehicles in the world, with an average of approximately 14 trucks or buses being inspected every minute from Canada to Mexico during this event.
Each year nearly 8,000 CVSA and FMCA-certified inspectors at 2,550 locations across North America perform more than 70,000 truck and bus inspections in the 72 hours of Roadcheck. Inspectors focus on the North American Standard Level I inspections, motor coach inspections, hours of service logbooks, and household goods carriers.
Iowa DOT motor vehicle enforcement officers will conduct commercial driver/motor vehicle inspections at locations throughout the state on roadways identified as high-crash corridors. Inspections will be performed to determine driver and vehicle compliance with the FMCSA’s safety and hazardous materials regulations. Trucks or buses with serious safety violations will be taken out of service and not allowed to continue until they are repaired. Unqualified drivers will also be taken out of service.
This sounds like the kind of program we need to start rounding up the 20 million Illegals. We got running around the country stealing jobs and draining are human services and hospitals.
As one of the targets for this annual event, I don’t mind. My company provides me with good (not new by any means) equipment and emphasizes safety. Because you may see big rigs on the shoulder being inspected, PLEASE, change lanes and give the trooper space.
Regarding illegals round up, I’ve driven the east-west interstates down near the Mexican border (I-8, 10 and 20), and was very amazed at what I saw. Along each of these interstates (and others too) ALL road traffic is shuffled off to a rest-area like place, where armed officers (we’re talking M-16’s, etc) stop EVERY vehicle and query the occupants.
At night, driving in southern Arizona, you will see aircraft circling over head, dropping white-hot flares suspended from parachutes, illuminating the desert. Not sure if it’s supporting the illegals, or officials looking for them.
It’s a whole different world down there…
Then I wonder how there still getting up here Dave? There is one sitting in jail right now. I was getting gas the other day. There were two Mexicans that could not even speak english and didn’t know how to run a gas pump. Hancock county is full of them and so is Hampton. Been to Wal-Mart lately on the weekend? I’m glad there finally cracking down. I just hope Obama ain’t doing it just to give the other 20 million all ready here amnesty. If they would just made E-Verify mandatory for every employer they would self deport themselves. Place some steep fines on the employers that hire them.
