IOWA CITY – As people continue to die on Iowa’s roadways at an alarming rate, the Iowa State Patrol is pleading with drivers to slow down.

Last week, the protectors of Iowa’s roads – state troopers – stopped a trio of speeders traveling at rates exceeding 100 miles per hour – all near Iowa City, on Interstate 80. Many folks know this long east-west corridor in Iowa is packed with vehicles racing through the Hawkeye state.

Pleading for reason via a social media post, complete with aerial photos of the freeway depicting stopwatches capturing the dangerous activities, the Iowa State Patrol said, “This reckless driving HAS to stop!” The criminals were traveling 100 mph, 109 mph, and 121 mph.

“TWO of the drivers were TEENS, one of them still on an instructional permit,” the patrol divulged. Some folks speculated the possible brats were likely texting on their phones, sine many teens seem to not be able to put the devices down for more than a few seconds at a time.

As of May 22, 2023, 118 people have died on Iowa’s roadways this calendar year. The average fatalities year to date for this day (2018-2022) is only 97.
