RURAL MASON CITY – A Clear Lake woman was cited after an auto collision.
On Tuesday afternoon, September 28, 2021, at about 1:23 PM, the Cerro Gordo Gordo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident at Hwy 122 & Killdeer Avenue between Mason City and Clear Lake.
23-year-old Alma Castor Padilla of Britt was westbound on Hwy 122 approaching Killdeer Avenue in her 2021 Kia Rio when 83-year-old Nadine Drennan of Clear Lake entered the intersection in her 2014 Chrysler Town & Country Van southbound. Drennan entered the intersection, and her vehicle was struck by Padilla’s vehicle.
Padilla and Drennan were checked out by Mason City Fire Medics at the scene but were not transported. All subjects were wearing their seat belts and the accident remains under investigation.
Drennan was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Iowa State Patrol, Mason City Fire Medics, and Clear Lake Fire Department.
83 years old? No way she should have been behind the wheel of a vehicle. I’m 73, and I feel anyone over the age of 70 should have to take a comprehensive driving test before getting a license. And I feel that anyone over the age of 70 without a license who gets in an accident should be financially responsible for damages, physical injury costs, and an automatic $5000.00 fine.
Then we would have to seriously consider background checks and competency classes for gun owners. our precious freedoms to kill one another go right out the window
I have no problem with that at all. Problem is, most gun owners are mentally incompetent to begin with. This is why they need to own a gun in the first place: To prove to the world what big, tough, bad guys they are. Crunching aluminum beer cans isn’t enough anymore, now they have to be “carrying” to prove they are real men.
