Northern Iowa woman dies in auto crash after striking rock embankment on county road

RURAL WINNESHIEK COUNTY – A Northern Iowa woman died in an auto crash after striking a rock embankment on a county road.

The accident took place sometime prior to Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at around 2:30 PM on County Road W14 in Washington Township in southern Winneshiek County.

Peggie Krumme, age 72 of Decorah, was traveling south on County Road W14 in a 2013 Ford Escape when the vehicle left the roadway, entered the east ditch and struck a rock embankment, coming to a rest under a bridge in a dry creek bed. The exact time of the accident is unknown. The accident was discovered and reported by a farmer doing field work.

Krumme sustained fatal injuries and was found deceased at the scene. This accident remains under investigation.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Saint Lucas Fire Department, Winneshiek County Ambulance Service and first responders.
