Report: Grassley cashes in on over $360K in farm subsidies

Grassley

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Iowa Senator Charles Grassley, who helps shape farm subsidies flowing out of the federal government, has himself cashed in in hundreds of thousands of dollars from the programs.

According to this report, over the last 2 decades, U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley has received $367,763 in farm subsidies.  He has previously said, “I work to give a strong voice to American agriculture.”  He has strategically placed himself on boards and commissions in Congress that decide the future of agricultural policies and subsidies.

USDA subsidies in Iowa totaled $1.4 billion in 2016, third in the nation (Texas and Illinois slightly more.) USDA subsidies in Iowa totaled $29.8 billion from 1995-2016.

President Donald Trump has proposed a nearly $5 billion reduction to the $23 billion in subsidies farmers enjoy each year. Grassley referenced the term “dead on arrival” when asked about the Trump budget.

Worth county suppervisors cash in regularly .

Senator Grassley is not doing anything wrong. Farm subsidies have been as prominent as oil subsidies. I used to complain about all these subsidies, but we do enjoy cheap food and and cheap gas compared to other countries.

Be if good or bad this has been a way of life in America for well over a 100 years. Grassley is a farmer and only getting paid for putting part of his farm ground in government set set aside programs.

I have a farm friend from Minnesota who has been renting his farm ground out for $250 per acre/per year. Last year he put 140 acres in a CRP for 15 years. (Crop Reduction Program) The government now pays him $348 dollars an acre to not farm that 140 acres at all.

He was getting $35,000 per year in annual rent and his tenet farmed the ground. Now we are paying my friend $48,720 every year for the the next 15 years to not farm the ground, That is $13,720 more income per year than what he was getting.

Additionally the local government farm office came out surveyed his farm ground and blocked the drainage tile and opened a dike to flood the low ground for the ducks and geese. (The ground is next to a 600 acre lake. I understand the taxpayers paid an additional $40,000 as a one time expense to take the land out of production.

Cheap food and land conservation is the logic. I don’t know if this is all good or bad. I do know that these farm programs have been available long before Senator Grassley was elected and he is not the one to blame. Sure he takes advantage of the programs but who among us wouldn’t?

Another Iowa Chuckie treat – Farmers property taxes are based on acreage production – so if the POOOR farmer has a bad year (chuckle) his property taxes are reduced – wish ALL small business owners had that socialist perk – elected officals are NOT to be trusted unless proven otherwise.

Kind of sounds like Chuck is a stinking socialist

Not sure about Chuck, but we know for sure you are.

i worked with a guy that bought 110 acres, he never farmed a inch of it and got subsidys from gov tht made the payment for the year, he said after 20 yrs he would have a “free” farm.

Cash out when the gittin’ good. Atta’ boy Chuck.

Our garden didn’t do very well this year. I wonder if we could get some govt money?

Farmer”s should NOT be getting a subsidy, period. Any Farmer’s.

Over $18000.00 a year in subsidies,(free money) That’s more then some people make working a year, before taxes. Farm subsidies should be eliminated.

Wanna buy a farm?
