Man wanted for nearly 10 years caught in Mason City, accused of endangering children

MASON CITY – A man who has been wanted for nearly 10 years for a crime he committed in 2007 in Clear Lake was recently caught by Mason City police.

Mason City police were called for a family offense to 196 Winnebago Way at 1:46 AM on August 14, 2017. At that residence, police officers encountered 52-year-old Emil Henry Juntunen, allegedly of Mason City. Police quickly discovered that Juntunen had several warrants for his arrest for crimes dating back to 2007 in Clear Lake. After an investigation, Juntunen was charged with new crimes of Unlawful Possession of a Prescription Drug and Child Endangerment. Mason City chief of police Jeff Brinkley tells NIT that “the child endangerment charge is related to his failure to provide care to two young children that were his responsibility at the time that officers came into contact with him.”

Juntunen was taken to the Cerro Gordo county jail on these charges and remains held there at this time.

Juntunen must also answer for a number of outstanding warrants connected to alleged previous crimes he committed. Among the crimes was an incident in Clear Lake that happened on July 9, 2008. Clear Lake chief of police Pete Roth tells NIT that Juntunen was involved in a hit and run with two parked cars on 4th Ave South near the intersection with S. 8th Steet that evening.

“I believe one the 911 callers was a witness to the crash and able to give a description of suspect vehicle to the dispatcher. Primary officer was in the area when the call came out and the stopped the suspect vehicle in 4500 block of 4th Ave. South. The driver, Emil Juntunen, was arrested for OWI 1st, driving without a license, no insurance – accident related, and striking an unattended vehicle.”

Juntunen caused nearly $4,500 in damage to the three cars in the accident. He was arrested, let free, and never appeared in court.

Juntunen, a convicted felon on a drug charge out of Mason City from 1999, is wanted in Winnebago county for a theft crime in Lake Mills, an interference charge out of Clear Lake from July of 2007, and a theft charge out of Worth county for theft from 2013.

Is that Iggy Pop?

it took 10 years to find this person when he been in the area the entire time? i don’t get it

look up the address in treasurers site, the Tierneys own it and it says they get homestead credit, how do they get that when its a rental

Because the tax statement on the Treasurer’s site is for property taxes due on the 2016 assessment. Tierney purchased the home in 2016 according to online property records on the Assessor’s site, so that means the homestead credit is for the previous owners. I would assume that the credit was removed once they sold their house, and won’t show up next year.

For some odd reason I believe you could take this embarrassment of humanity, put him in a helicopter and push him out over a body of water and no one would know he was missing.
