Gov. Branstad and Lt. Gov. Reynolds issue statements on dismissal of Des Moines Water Works lawsuit

DES MOINES – Today, Gov. Terry E. Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds released the following statements in regards to the dismissal of the Des Moines Water Works lawsuit:

Gov. Branstad:

“I’m pleased to see an end to this costly litigation brought about by the Des Moines Water Works. From the very beginning, we’ve attempted to work in a collaborative way with our partners in the field and our communities to improve water quality in Iowa. That’s the Iowa way. Now, we can finally put this distraction behind us and focus on the full implementation of the nutrient reduction strategy.”

Lt. Gov. Reynolds:

“The dismissal of this lawsuit is very welcome news for our farmers, small businesses and communities across Iowa. We’ve believed all along that this lawsuit was not only the wrong approach, but would hinder the positive progress we’ve made by working collaboratively in addressing water quality through the nutrient reduction strategy. We look forward to continuing our conversation with the Legislature in the weeks ahead to finalize a plan that will continue to grow our water quality efforts.”

Tell that to the Cows, deer, rabbits, hogs, birds and even fish. Tell it to the water treatment plants that by pass every year.

Tell that to the farmers who dump tons of nitrogen and pesticides on the earth, the slaughter houses who pour sewage in our streams, the turkey farms and chicken farms that load the birds with antibiotics then dump their waste into your rivers. All in the name of greed and corporate profit. Tell that to Terrys friends The Prestages who got their ass kicked in Mason City

You live in Iowa. It is a Ag State. If you don’t like it move because it isn’t going to change. It is almost spring and snowflakes will melt.

This is the sorriest possible answer possible to the problem. Any other business in the country is held responsible for their discharges into lakes and streams. But farmers get a free pass to poison our water.?!?! It has to change and it seems the only way to get any sort of action is through law suits like the Des Moines Water Works filed.

It’s just LVS. A sorry excuse for an adult conversation.

LVS-Is that the only answers you ever have? -“if you don”t like it just move”- So glad there are very few people like you who would rather run then fight or we would be in a world of trouble in this state.

All is good, relax as justice will prevail. Word on the street is that the old coot purchased some property in Elmwood. He himself is moving soon to another place.

Was there a reasonable solution? – what were the terms or is this just another Flintstone? Pollution of drinking water should be a felony. I am not trying to be a smart azz but his is a serious matter and should not be kicked down the road by politicans.

Agreed! Life Rule #1: You cannot eat where you excrete.

o the deer, cows, hogs and water treatment plants. If you live by the oceans tell it to the fish.
