Meth dealer nabbed on stolen bike, cruising the streets before sentencing

MASON CITY – A convicted meth dealer who will be sentenced in court today was nabbed on a stolen bike as he cruised the streets of Mason City early Sunday morning.

A Mason City police officer stopped two bicycles in a residential area, at the corner of 10th Street SW and Jefferson Avenue at 2:01 AM Sunday morning, January 22, 2017. Mason City police tell NIT the MCPD officer stopped the two bicyclists for riding on the wrong side of the roadway, and one of the bicycles did not have a headlamp. After an investigation, one of the bike riders was identified as 25-year-old Matthew Stephen Lowe of Northwood; his bike had no headlamp in operation. The bike that Matt Lowe was peddling was a women’s Trek 820 bicycle that had been reported stolen in Mason City on July 26, 2016. The bicycle was valued at $400.00.

As a result, Lowe was arrested on a charge of fourth-degree theft (Possession of Stolen Property) and jailed. The other bicycle and rider checked out ok and was not charged.

Lowe was taken to jail where he remains held at this time. Court records show that Lowe was charged by the Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s office last year on a felony charge of delivery of methamphetamine. After a guilty plea, he is set to be sentenced Monday, January 23, 2017.
