Mason City police announce investigation into man’s death

investigateMASON CITY – Police in Mason City have brought in state investigators to help them look into the death of a man late last week.

On Thursday, August 11, 2016, at 6:36 a.m., the Mason City Police Department responded to a medical call in the 1600 block of South Carolina Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and proceeded to administer emergency first aid to a male who was found in the street. He was transported to Mercy Medical Center by the Mason City Fire Department. He was pronounced dead there a short time later.

As part of the ongoing investigation into this matter, the Mason City police department is being assisted by the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Laboratory.

No other details were released.  According to sources NIT is talking to, the deceased man may have been on a ladder and may  have been electrocuted by a power line. NIT is told a tree or large branch was down in the yard where the incident took place.

Police are seeking help from the public to find out what happened. They are asking that anyone with information about this incident to contact the Mason City Police Department.
