NORA SPRINGS, IOWA – Officials in Nora Springs moved quickly Thursday night to prevent an adult business from opening in their downtown.
By a vote of 5-1, the Nora Springs planning and zoning board adopted amendments to the city’s zoning ordinance pertaining to adult businesses in their community. The board consists of 6 members; Dave Lund voted against the amendments. He refused comment to NIT after the meeting.
The move comes in response to word that a Minnesota man aims to open what would be the area’s only “juice bar” – the Pole Barn Theatre. The business would be located at 14 North Hawkeye Avenue, the former location of Frosty Mugs bar, in downtown Nora Springs.
The amended city ordinance now goes before the Nora Springs city council at a meeting to be held Monday night, February 22, 2016 at 7 PM in city hall.
Many citizens in attendance – up to 3 dozen of them in total – expressed relief that the city had moved quickly to thwart the possibility of an adult business opening in town.
After the meeting, one woman told NIT that “this is not the type of business we need here, around kids, schools, churches. I’m glad this will soon be over.”

The naked cleaning business also needs to be shut down. There’s more than just cleaning going on.
Read the story about the prostitution going on at the so-called massage parlor front in Mason City and the possible sex slave trafficking that goes along with sex-based businesses and you will see why people are concerned about having these types of businesses in their towns. It shouldn’t be so much about the morality issue as it is about the possible exploitation of the women who work for the people who own these businesses that may be fronts for sex slaves. Some women work at those jobs voluntarily, but most do it for drugs or enslavement of some kind.
Ok all of you annonimous wind bags and especially you Calvin. I think some of you are missing the point. Nora Spring didn’t have a clue this was happening. The literally found out days ago. Gee, shame on them for trying to protect their community. And I’d really like to see any of you enjoy having an establishment like this put up next to your house, school, or in the middle of the city next to the post office, or fire station. It’s just not something needed. Oh, any of you run off at the mouth idiots know that the owner is a sex offender? No? Oh wow, I thought you all knew everything. And as for you Calvin, you liberal marble mouth, I love the way you can look at a group of poeple and immediately tell their denomination and voting preferences. The problem with something like this, and it’s sad that I have to point it out to liberals, but they must be spoon fed at times, is that it’s not properly zoned. You don’t put establishments like this next to schools and such. This is something I believe other small communities will be addressing as soon as the can to prevent any further expansion of this type of business set up where it’s not prudent, logical, or wanted. I just love how you poeple get so lathered up over a community just trying to protect itself. Just despicable. May some poop like this move next to your house. May then your exalted opinions come back to bite you.
In conclusion, I’m personally not opposed to juice bars, topless clubs, or the like, just not where owners like this are putting them.
Seems like this is something the free market will take care of by itself. If the community doesn’t like the establishment it will fail and the problem will be solved.
The only reason someone would not want this new business in their town is because of some puritanical religious-based morality. Being the raging capitalist pig I am I’d rather the business fail because the town rejects it by not spending money there instead of the government deciding what is allowed or not.
Also, it is actually zoned correctly as Nora Springs had no rules on the books when the establishment opened which is why they are scrambling now. Also the fact he is a sex offender is irrelevant as he is breaking no laws. I don’t like the guy, but that’s not enough reason to shut his business down.
I just enjoy pointing out hypocrisy, like slamming me for making assumptions about voters and then turning around to using liberal as an insult towards me. Seems a might be more conservative than you think!

Why is it that Nora Springs residents, are now in a uproar over the new establishment???The city approve the establishment, no residents really complained, now the news steps in MAKES a BIG deal an now the towns people WHO didn’t bother to go to city meetings are now grabbing there pitch forks, an acting, like they are righteous Christians. 90% of all people went to church but now only go occasionally, if you have no sin then cast the first rock at the new establishment, I bet there is nobody in Nora Springs that has never sinned of voting age, get off your high horse stop blaming a establishment for the towns problems. State law says the city has to give at least 7 but no more than 20 days notice of a public hearing before they can have the public hearing and change to the zoning ordinance.
Reminds me of the old Frankenstein or Dracula movies where the townsfolk show up with their pitchforks and clubs and torches. Lol!

I really don’t understand why exotic dancers are alway called bad names and establishments are dreamed trashy yes I will agree that a few might be that way but the majority are not and done very tastefully also why is the female body deamed bad I have seen much worse walking around on our streets then in exotic dancer places
