Former Cerro Gordo jailer arrested after skipping trial on harassment charge

NORA SPRINGS – A former Cerro Gordo county jailer was due in court this month for trial on a harassment charge, but failed to appear, leading to a warrant for his arrest.

Aron Bierl, age 29 of Nora Springs, allegedly harassed a person in Nora Springs on September 6, 2015. Nora Springs police filed a charge of third degree harassment on September 8; he was served with a warrant the next day.

After a not-guilty plea, Bierl was released from jail in Charles City after posting bond. He was to stand trail on September 28, but Bierl’s public defender asked for a continuance, which was granted. The jury trial was then set for October 12. However, Bierl did not appear in court, and a second arrest warrant was issued by a judge. Bierl was arrested by Charles City police on that afternoon and taken to jail. A cash bond was posted that day by Ronald Bierl, leading to Bierl’s release from jail.

No new court date has been set, but he will face a hearing in Floyd county district court.

Sheriff Kevin Pals told NIT this morning that Bierl stopped working at the Cerro Gordo county jail on July 13, 2015, when he resigned.

Sheriff Pals did also say that Mr. Bierl had no connection to an investigation earlier this summer involving suspected inappropriate contact between a jailer and a female inmate.  No charges were ever filed in that incident, which involved an investigation by the Cerro Gordo county attorney’s office and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

“The DCI found no basis for charges,” Sheriff Pals said back in August.  An internal investigation led to the matter being dealt with “internally”, Sheriff Pals said.

The name of the jailer involved in that alleged incident has never been released.

the guy quit at the jail cuz of the issues he has at home with his x wife . She wont let him see his 2 yr. old son and he his having lots of issues with this as most Dads would. The harrassment charges are because his X turns him in when he trying to see his child. Hes a good guy with lots of issues rite now and it seems horrible that anyone would think that it has something to do with what happened at the cerro-gordo jail. Your story is just a big rumor mill !!!!

Dean,

This information you shared is incorrect, as I have physical evidence to the harassment and threats. Not just to his wife but mine as well. As for not seeing his child? That’s a complete lie! He had no intentions of seeing his son, he was even attempting to sign his rights away. Over 100 missed calls to his wife, 50 some to my wife and over 80 to myself all in the same 1 hour period. When he had visitation he would cancel on the day of. I’m sorry for you being misinformed about all of this but Aron is not the innocent party here. When you make physical threats against 2 women and threaten violence on them that is harassment. Idk who filled you in on this but you should put correct information out there.

However I will confirm his resignation had nothing to do with the incident at the jail, just a coincidence is all that is.

Very creepy and shady. Jail incident, jailer resigns uuhhmm something smells fishy. Also I read somewhere that the head of the jail (Chad Stauffer) quit as the head man and now works in chuck town for Molstads. Now the fish smell is really starting to stink even more. Just saying… Those Beirls not the sharpest knives in the store.
