MASON CITY – A Swaledale man caught driving drunk earlier this year by Mason City police got a break on the usual drunk driving fine.
Brent Gerard Watters, age 31 of Swaledale, turned himself in to the Cerro Gordo jail Friday evening. He was wanted on an arrest warrant in connection to an assault charge and a criminal mischief charge. Allegedly, a person from Swaledale reported on August 16 that he was assaulted and his vehicle was vandalized by Watters. Deputies responded that evening and encountered Watters, who fled on foot when they arrived, and escaped. They then applied for the warrant.
Upon turning himself in, Watters was taken to the jail to serve two days of incarceration for pleading guilty to drunk driving. He was also fined half the usual amount of $1,250.
Watters is also accused at this time of 5th degree theft by Mason City police after an incident in May that was investigated, leading to the charge being filed in July. He is awaiting a non-jury trial set for October 1.
