MASON CITY – Violence again reared its ugly head late Saturday night in the Cultural Crescent, when a man was knocked out behind a bar.
A Mason City man was discovered lying motionless behind a bar at the 200 block of South Federal Avenue around 11 PM. Two women were tugging on his arms urging him to “wake up” and “move”, but the man could only mumble. He was lying in blood, and his face was covered in streams of blood. His head flopped back and forth as they lurched him up and down. At least one large wound was seen on his face. Blood stains were seen in the gravel under him.
A call to 911 was made by a concerned citizen, who urged the women not to move the injured man. The women appeared agitated that a call to emergency authorities was made, and yelled at the citizen for calling. They urged the man to hurry and “get out” before “the cops” arrived. They got the man to his feet as blood dripped down his head and started to walk him away from he scene, when two large men approached from inside the nearby bar.
“What you want?” one of the men said to the injured man, who could barely stand and mumbled that he just wanted to walk home. The women then told the men that police had been called. The men appeared to be aggressive. The second man was very large. They both headed back for the bar and were not seen again. A large group of people continued to stand at the rear of the bar, outside, just a few dozen feet from where the man lay in the dust and rocks, bleeding.
As one of the women led the man away on Third Street, headed east, police, ambulance and fire trucks rolled onto the scene. A police officer stopped the man and woman. Soon, the pair was separated and officers attempted to determine what had happened. A fire truck blocked Third Street as police sorted out the situation.
Officers began to attempt to question bystanders, and went inside the bar. The injured man told police he didn’t want to talk about what happened. The woman who was with him said a man walked up and punched him out, in the alley. She left in a squad car, and the injured man left in an ambulance.
I love how all these people act like they know when i knocked his ass out people dont talk about shit you know nothing about
Lucky thats all he got was a hook
a) I feel safer at this bar than any other in town.
b) Besides this incident between a few disrespectful individuals, the night was awesome!
c) The owner of this establishment is an exceptional human being.
a) I wouldn’t feel that way
b) I can believe that
c) The owner is a very good guy
I guess I am late to the game, where (in MC) is all this happening?
I was confused about this too, but I think the article may be wrong. The 200 block of S Federal would be the mall parking lot, however the 200 block of N Federal would be Sportsman’s. The building in the background of the photos on “third street” looks like one of the buildings that was part of Marshall & Swift before they closed.
@anonymous-I have to say your eyes must be better than mine, but you could be correct. It could be Sporty’s or it might be across the street. There are three bars in that area.
Can you people hear what you are saying here? It is ok to become violent just because someone gets lippy? Get real! If you can’t walk away from someone that is running there mouth and you get violent, you need to be arrested.
It also obvious you can’t handle your liquor!
Not to forget, the police should have been called if the person was out control. Nobody should take the law into their own hands just for some macho BS.
That’s what I was thinking. It was pretty callous behavior toward this individual Saturday night. A lot of people standing around watching him wallow in the dirt. Humanity (not) at it’s finest, to say the least. I wouldn’t trust that group as far as I could throw them. Sorry, just being honest.
@Matt-That is the way it is in the bars. If you lip off you had better be able to back it up. If not, the police will be to late except top take you to the hospital. It is the way of the world in these types of establishments. That is why most people do not go downtown even though JMO thinks it is great.
Right. First, I think it’s smartest to mind one’s own business in the bars… especially some of them in this town. But, I’ve seen this kind of violence elsewhere, too. When I lived in Iowa City, I saw these fights all the time. I got jumped 4-5 times in the 6 years I lived there. If you don’t like the atmosphere in a bar, blame the management and/or owner and take your business elsewhere is the best idea, and always keep your head on a swivel, because there are cheap shot artists out there.
Theres alot of people if somebody would of tried that shit on them they would of took out a gun and shot the shit’s. Or least scared them shitless, back them off. Theres one lives at the lake he I bet would of love the chance to do that. Calling Tod Blodgett where are you when we need you.
When you’re asked to keave, maybe you should. Hint, hint.
I wonder what JMO thinks of her Cultural Crescent now?
thankful this citizen didn’t abide by your ‘stand your ground’ theory… Sure out come be far worse than ass whooping he received… I’d be pretty embarrassed and not want to talk about what happened if I was in your shoes too jeff… chalk it up to lesson learned and learn to keep your thoughts within your lips, less likely to bite you in the ass in the end… bahahahaha bet today ya wishin you would a kept ya mouth shut huh, pretty sore are ya??? lol
Fuller, as well ) did what he could to incite, antagonize, instigate, & provoke a fight… While he had all the intentions to ‘punk a bitch out’ he certainly underminded ability of himself becoming the bitch who got punked… in short~ when your mouth writes a check your ass can’t cash- may I suggest you just keep your fkn mouth clooooooosed! the dude was asked to leave multiple times, told to leave a few, and ordered to leave… Using your words ramblerer, your ‘victim’ ought be damn…
Philly, you don’t even live here. The bar this happened at breeds trouble. Every weekend there is trouble there. Keep your long winded rants to yourself.
listen here fk*nutz, I was there when this whole incident played out- instead of your nonsense rambling upon rambling, would your opinion and ramblings change if it was known that the ‘victim’ who received this beat down originally WAS the aggressor who instigated and initialized sequel of events that played out…? Well surprise surprise, Jeff Collins went to an event taking place, one celebrating group of friends who all have May birthdays… He from the moment he stepped foot in (his gf, Fallon…

More evidence of a failed govt and society. The police should institute “non-aggression” licenses which citizens could receive training and permitting. Basically the permit would grant the citizen a Stand Your Ground status, enabling them to basically pull out a pistol and shoot dead any aggressors who initiate violence against them. Non aggressive people should be granted privileges over aggressive people.
The law of the jungle must be curbed. Assault of this nature is essentially attempted murder and should be prosecuted as such. However alcohol-the dirty poison, fuels human rage. Forbidden zones I suppose. Non aggression training is needed in that region complete with medical analysis of wounds and potential damage. Bar hoods think very little of consequences.
If you analyze the intent of the aggressors, you could determine whether they meant to kill the man but were placated by his motionless body. Prosecutors and police should start holding accountable aggression of this nature. A more advanced society would enable “medical interrogations” with sodium pentathol to determine intent. If the aggressors mumbled “they wanted to kill that guy” during their twilight, they should be brought up for attempted murder.
Lazy prosecutors let slide what essentially amounts to attempted murder. The aggressors were placated only when the man’s motionless body lay in the alleyway. Upon arousal, they returned to possibly put him back into a motionless state (which could have been the fatal blows). Regardless of the feud which started the fight, the emphasis should be placed on the satisfaction of the aggressor: to make motionless and unconscious the victim…aka: DEATH.
I would spread the message far and wide that assaults of this nature are going to be met with stiff prison sentences in upwards of 20 years. It’s entirely possible for humans to entertain themselves on a night on the town without resorting to ATTEMPTED MURDER. Find the aggressors, and throw the book at them. Lawmakers: REWRITE THE BOOK.
Cool story bro. Sounds like you were there through remote viewing. Nice trick for a guy with a broken link for a name and selective memory about his posts.
There’s that “bro” crap again. U become a pie eyed dirty blonde long haired Spicolli character in my mind every time you say that. I have no brothers that lived. So can I call you Sister instead?
