Mason City man guilty of second offense drunk driving

MASON CITY – A man who eluded police before being stopped and arrested for drunk driving is now in jail serving his sentence.

Aaron J. Markee, age 28 of Mason City, was stopped by Mason City police on January 8, 2015, after he refused to stop. He was arrested and charged with second offense operating while intoxicated.

On April 20, Markee pled guilty to eluding and second offense operating while intoxicated. He was given a one year jail sentence with all but 7 days suspended. He was also ordered to submit a DNA sample and pay $3,222.50 in fines and court fees. He was also placed on probation for one year. He is now in jail serving his jail sentence.

When did they start ordering people to give a DNA sample for a a drunk driving charge? It is not a felony.
