MINNEAPOLIS – A fire in Minneapolis city hall damaged a police evidence room early Monday morning.
According to Minneapolis police, just prior to 1:00 AM Monday, a fire broke out in the sub-basement of the evidence storage area in Minneapolis City Hall. No one was in the area at that time. The sprinklers activated near the source of heat, limiting the area of fire and water damage to a minimum. Smoke exposure occurred throughout City Hall.
Security measures were established immediately to maintain the integrity of evidence.
Property and Evidence personnel are currently removing water and debris from the area. They are also determining the extent of fire and water damage.
A precise cause of the fire remains undetermined, but no foul play is suspected.
