Sheffield woman caught drunk driving

MASON CITY – A Sheffield woman was picked up for drunk driving this weekend.

Sunday morning, March 22 at 1:31 AM, A Cerro Gordo deputy conducted a traffic stop at 12th Street NE and Florida Avenue, near the NIACC campus. During the course of the traffic stop and investigation, the deputy determined that the driver, 21-year-old Caitlyn Kay Hanig of Sheffield was determined to be intoxicated and placed under arrest.

Hanig was taken to the county jail, booked and released later Sunday, pending a court date.

Heck, this is even the daughter of the police chief in Sheffield. They ARE cracking down!

Buzz, how do you feel about the 20 or 30 people a night being pulled over without cause? Do you think people should retain any rights?

I have no idea as to how many people are being stopped, but I feel I do have a right to drive without encountering a drunk driver. As I said…if they are driving drunk, they need to be caught.

I don’t understand the public intox charges. If someone is walking as opposed to driving, knowing they are too intoxicated to drive, and are not causing anyone any trouble, then why should they be charged with anything? It’s a b.s. charge. So, someones not walking a straight line down the sidewalk, who cares? They’re not driving a car. It’s just ANOTHER way for the police to harass people. Oh, except our mayor. He can be drunk anywhere, behind the wheel, walking, whatever. He’s the…

Exception. And if you’ve been drinking, and sitting in your car calling for a ride, the police will charge you anyway. That’s our police force. Forget about protect and serve. It’s all about how many b.s. charges they can rack up. But, of course, it is and has always been who you are, and where you live also. If you’re not from the right family you’re screwed. If you dont know the right people, you’re screwed. And, If you live on the north end, you’re screwed.

@Anonymous-I agree with you on this issue. It is just not right that when people are responsible enough not to drive after having to much to drink our police arrest them for walking home. If they are not a danger to themselves or anyone else leave them alone. It is also not right that they arrest people for being drunk in their cars if they are not driving.

I hope you get pulled over every time you drive your car..
And may your every road be a checkpoint..
Then you can tell them how safe you feel while they shake you down…

Good…if they are driving drunk, they need to be caught. Can’t wait for them to start cracking down even more.

The courts let most of them go anyway. Depending on who they are of course. Some people in Mason City can have multiple DUIS and they walk. Even the high school kid who had the hit and run, car chase, took the car from a lady in the Walmart lot…..remember him? He walked. It’s all about who you are in this town!

If you drive past midnight in Cerro Gordo county, you will be stopped. They will make up a reason for the stop, but after midnight they will find away to look into your vehicle. They have nothing better to do.
The sheriff dept, highway patrol, and city cops are WAY WAY over staffed.
They need to generate this revenue to justify their existance

@Sad-actually the time is 10:30 PM. if you are driving in certain areas they will pull you over earlier. If you are on 12th N.W. the magic time is about 9:00 PM. If you are walking it they will check you out for P.I.
