MASON CITY – A young man endured a terrifying episode of bullying, harassment and outright fear last week at the hands of four teens allegedly hell-bent of robbing him blind, a Mason City mother told NIT.
For the purposes of this story and to honor the wishes of law enforcement, no names, places or exact dates will be mentioned, as their investigation into these on-going alleged organized criminal activity proceeds.
According to a Mason City woman, last week her son – who is under the age of 15 – left their home to engage in a recreational activity with other young teens at a local business. As they waited outside to get in, the four local teens who have been arrested in connection to on-going gang activity who call themselves “Savage Squad” – 13-year-old Darrius Rashawn Bolden, 15-year-old Travis John Ulrich, 16-year-old Rudy Huerta and 16-year-old Karl Aaron Karzin – also came to this business. They tried to get inside, but were turned away by the owner. They challenged the owner to a fight but were finally removed from the building.
However, the four teens stayed outside the main entrance, where other teens were waiting to get inside, our source described. The “Savage Squad” was “pumped up as they went outside where my child his friend and their little [girlfriends] were”. The “Savage Squad” proceeded to pick on the friend of the mom’s son and took his wallet and stole his money – which was an entire $1.
Then, the “Savage Squad” turned to the mother’s young son and demanded his money… but he refused to give it up.
“My son had $70 on him that he earned from law mowing,” mom told NIT. “He was not giving it up so he told Darious no. This kid was nose to nose with my son. Her son said no – twice – and then Darius [Bolden] ordered Rudy [Huerta] “to give him his belt”. Rudy [Huerta] had “a piece of board that he was swinging around and threatening these kids” with at this time.
Rudy Huerta allegedly gave Darrius [Bolden] the belt “and he hit my son with it” as he demanded the money.
“Again my son said no and Karl [Karzin] got into his face demanding the money! At this time Travis [Ulrich] pulled up his shirt and flashed a gun.”
The woman’s son “still said no and Karl [Karzin] hit him in the face and proceeded to grab at my sons pants for his wallet”, the mother said.
“He [had] all four kids trying to get him to fight and give him his money and he managed to push his way out and run home. He was bawling when he got here!”
“I quickly ran up [to the location] and they were gone. Cops showed up and we did press charges.”
Mom told NIT that she was “contacted through a lawyer who wanted to know if we had question or if we needed coupling”.
Sources tell NIT that all four teens are being held by authorities at this time.
The source told NIT that “Rudy [Huerta] and Karl [Karzin] are in jail no bond and the other two Darious [Bolden] and Travis [Ulrich] are waiting transport to juvie. They also picked up 2 more kids from the high school but 4 more kids could also be picked up and charged as there’s 10 of them in this gang! For now 6 kids” are being held.

okay I understand that you guys may not like Rudy, Darrius, Travie, or Carl. But I know Savage Squad and they wouldn’t go this far and pull a gun on someone. Just for money. You may love your brother and that is ok, but what is not ok is to behave like a thug, beat other human beings, they also have siblings, they have mothers, they have family that could not believe that they had a family member endure a beating for nothing other than the Savage Squad not getting their way with stealing. While Caning is a useful tool, first we have to re-define child abuse and get the DHS off parents back.
A few marks left on a child while getting their attention sure didn’t hurt me. My dad used a razor strap and I love and respect him dearly.

I also should add, ‘Parental’ laziness is a huge problem too.
My child and several friends had cell phones stolen at John Adams Middle school and I bet these are the creeps that took them. We had one school employee tell us that more 40 phones were missing between the middle school and high school. They need to make our schools a safe environment for kids and having thugs like this in our schools in not good! I am not sure if they will ever learn their lesson, seems these kids have no positive parental guidance at all and I think that is what is needed.
It makes me sad to think this could happen to my child, or ANY child, for that matter. It also reminds me of the fact that our system is failing our youth…offenders and victims. I’ve known a couple of these boys since they were little. They are living what they’ve learned. We can sit and place blame on them or their parents, but in reality, society has punked out on THEM. For some, negative attention is better than NO attention. So young, so angry, and so lost. 🙁
I do agree with some of what you said but I am so tired of people saying that criminals are just living what they learned. There are many people who were raised with out parents or raised in poverty and violence that chose a better path. These kids are old enough to know what they grew up with is wrong but they choose to do wrong. We need to not make excuses for criminals. Speaking of Billy boy, he is currently in jail for Serious Domestic Assault and Delivery of Meth, bail is $250,000 cash only for the meth charge. Another repeat Domestic Abuser Judge Annette Boehlje gave a slap on the wrist to.
His charges were updated to include a US Marshall hold for drug trafficking. One less POS to reside in MC, unless of course he snitches.
