Judy Johnson, age 79 of Emmetsburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at the Emmetsburg Care Center. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 4, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.

Judy Kay Johnson, the daughter of Steven and Mabel Lucille (Salisbury) Hoben, was born on November 17, 1946, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She graduated from Emmetsburg Catholic High School in 1964. On November 28, 1964, Judy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Victor Ernest Johnson, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Together, they built a life centered around family and hard work.

In her early years, Judy worked in several food establishments, where she built the strong work ethic she carried throughout her life. She and Vic also spent time living in Florida during their younger years—something she truly enjoyed—before returning to Emmetsburg to put down roots and begin their journey in real estate. Together, they owned and operated Johnson Realty for over forty years. Real estate was more than a career for Judy—it was her passion, and she took great pride in her work and the relationships she built along the way.

Judy found joy in the everyday moments of life. She loved watching HGTV, old westerns, and her all-time favorite, The Grinch. She was always up to date on the latest news and rarely missed a thing. She also enjoyed trips to the casino and shopping outings.

Above all else, Judy’s greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren. She never missed a ball game and cherished every opportunity to support and celebrate them. Whether it was taking them on vacations, gathering for birthdays, or taking part in their ongoing tradition of playful gift pranks, something she especially enjoyed with her grandson, Colyn, those moments meant everything to her.

Christmas was Judy’s favorite time of year. She loved decorating her home, hosting her family, preparing a big meal, and spoiling her grandchildren with gifts. Her home was the heart of family gatherings, especially on Sunday nights—a long-standing tradition where she lovingly prepared a big meal for her family each week.

Left to cherish Judy’s memory are her son, Bruce Johnson of Emmetsburg; her grandson, Colyn (Anna) Johnson of Emmetsburg; her granddaughter, Jayden Johnson and her significant other, Tyson Kruse of Emmetsburg; her beloved great-grandchildren, Callahan Joe Kruse and Lynch Victor Johnson; her brother, Russell Phelps of Palmetto, Florida; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vic; her sister, Shirley (Simonson) Trollinger; and her brother, Robert Phelps.

Judy will be remembered for her unwavering dedication, her strong spirit, and the deep love she had for her family. Her legacy lives on in the traditions she created, the memories she made, and the countless lives she touched.
