CHARLES CITY – A routine afternoon patrol in Charles City took a violent turn, resulting in a flurry of charges against a local man after a traffic stop escalated into a physical confrontation with law enforcement.
The incident unfolded on February 28, 2026, at approximately 3:21 PM. Officers with the Charles City Police Department pulled over a vehicle in the 2100 block of Clark Street for what appeared to be standard administrative violations. However, the driver, identified as 21-year-old Daniel Garcia, was quickly found to be operating with a barred license. Police also noted the vehicle lacked valid registration and proof of insurance.
What began as a paperwork issue rapidly intensified when Garcia allegedly became combative. According to department reports, Garcia did not go quietly, leading to charges of interference with official acts. The situation reached a breaking point when Garcia reportedly turned physical, resulting in a charge of assault on a peace officer.
Despite the serious nature of the allegations involving an attack on an officer, Garcia was processed and subsequently released from custody on his own recognizance. He is currently awaiting a day of reckoning in the Floyd County Courthouse, with a **preliminary hearing scheduled for March 20, 2026, at 11:45 AM.
