Doris Leona Ashland, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Spirit Lake on February 18, 2026. She was born on May 18, 1934, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Harm and Margaret Davids. Doris grew up in Sheffield, Iowa, and was the youngest of eight children.

After graduating from Sheffield High School, she worked in the parts department at Allis-Chalmers in Mason City, Iowa. On July 14, 1956, she married Kenneth Ashland in Clear Lake, Iowa. In 1962, Kenneth and Doris relocated to Spirit Lake, where they made their home for the next 64 years.

Doris worked at the Dickinson County Farm Bureau and Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for several years. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, president of the Altar Guild, and a deaconess. In addition, she was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 4514, serving on the Color Guard and as a trustee.

In her free time, Doris enjoyed being with her family, sewing, gardening, and traveling throughout the United States with Kenneth.

She is survived by her children: Wendy Ashland of St. Michael, Minnesota; Jeff Ashland (Penny) of Spirit Lake; and Peggy Adam (Ken) of Chanhassen, Minnesota; her grandchildren: Christopher (Jennifer) Ashland of Otsego, Minnesota; Caitlin (Nate) Ashland of St. Michael, Minnesota; Joshua Ashland of Otsego, Minnesota; Ben (Mackenzie) Ashland of Spirit Lake; Sami (Karl) Keller of Owatonna, Minnesota; Andy Ashland of Spirit Lake; Angela Adam of Cannon Ball, North Dakota; Katy (Nick) Metz of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Tyler Adam of Chanhassen, Minnesota; her great-grandchildren: Aiden, Jack, Jordan, Bowden, Ava, Boone, and Michael; a sister-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved pet beagle, Barney.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents; three brothers and four sisters; five brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; three nieces; and three nephews.

Above all, Doris was a loving and devoted mother. She lived a long life marked by love for her family, quiet strength, and steady devotion to those she held dear. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will take place at Grace Lutheran Church on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 9:00 AM. to 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM.
