Northern Iowa woman nabbed for drunk driving after returning to accident scene

Police say this Northern Iowa woman left a bar, got behind the wheel and backed into a parked car before leaving the scene of the collision, but as cops arrived to investigate, the tipsy boozer drove back to the scene with her pal, and they both shotgunned a tall cold can of comeuppance.

ORAN, IOWA – Police say this Northern Iowa woman left a bar, got behind the wheel and backed into a parked car before leaving the scene of the collision, but as cops arrived to investigate, the tipsy boozer drove back to the scene with her pal, and they both shotgunned a tall cold can of comeuppance.

On January 2, 2025, at approximately 12:36 AM, Fayette county deputies were called to 5057 Main Street in Oran, Iowa, in reference to a report of a hit and run accident.

Upon arrival, it was learned that the driver, later identified as 36-year-old Sarah M. Fowler of Dunkerton, Iowa, had returned to the accident scene along with another male party later identified as Joseph E. Liscano. age 31 of Sumner, Iowa. Deputies investigated the accident and it was learned that Fowler had backed her 2008 Ford Edge into Craig Engelhardt’s 2013 Chevy Impala as she was leaving a bar. Also, while investigating, Liscano was found to be displaying signs of intoxication and was interfering with the investigation.

Subsequently, Liscano was arrested and charged with public intoxication and interference with official acts.

Fowler was also found to be displaying signs of intoxication and was subsequently charged with the following offenses:

  • Striking an unattended vehicle

  • Failure to provide financial liability-accident related

  • Public intoxication

  • Interference with official acts

  • Operating while intoxicated

The incident remained under investigation with additional charges pending, police said.  Both suspects are now released from jail and awaiting court appearances.
