November 19, 1965 – January 8, 2026

Dennis Patrick Atkinson, 60, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away at his home January 8, 2026 after facing many health complications.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life at 2:00pm January 17, 2026, at Good Shepherd Montessori School, 501 East 6th Street Fowler, IN 46617.

In lieu of flowers, the memorial contributions can be made out to the funeral home to assist with funeral expenses.

Dennis was born November 19, 1965 in Lafayette, Indiana, son of Richard and Marilyn (Besse) Atkinson Timmons. After high school, he attended Purdue University and later went on to obtain his Bachelor’s in Theology with a minor in History from Central Bible College. Dennis was a servant of God and spent many of his years serving people as a pastor. While he used his “gift of gab” to speak God’s truth, his hands went to work as a self-employed contractor.

Dennis was a compassionate, hospitable and loving man. He was a devoted father and a professional grandpa. He always made time to make it to his sons’ events as they grew up; even coaching their teams to stay involved in their activities. He loved being a goofy dad. On an average day, Dennis could be found dancing through the kitchen, singing “God is great, give us chocolate cake,” and announcing himself as Captain Bacon while he cooked. Cooking was his love language. He was an avid Purdue fan and loved watching them play basketball and football, joining the boys at the stadium annually. He also loved to play card games, golf, hunt and fish with his boys any chance he got. He will be greatly missed!

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, RJ (Sarah) Atkinson, Ande (Liz) Atkinson, Dan (Emily) Atkinson, and Aaron (Amanda) Atkinson; step-daughters, Emily (Javier) Moreno and Lani Krull; step-son, Noah Krull; the mother of his children, Tonya (Keith) Bunyard; siblings, Gary (Suzy) Atkinson, Deb Hayworth, Marla (Bob) Lata, Rick Atkinson, Mike (Ashley) Atkinson; sister-in-law, Amy Atkinson; grandchildren, Austin, Addalynn, Sebastyan, Ezekiel, Rowan, Remi, River, Londyn, Maisy, Mabel, Arlo, and Harrison; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Atkinson and Marilyn Besse Atkinson Timmons; as well as his brother-in-law Roger Hayworth and grandson, Gabryel Atkinson.
