Richard Charles “Rick” Scholbrock was born July 22, 1964, in Cresco, Iowa, the son of Wayne and Jayne (Ness) Scholbrock. He grew up in the Cresco area, graduating from Crestwood High School in 1982. From a young age, Rick developed a strong work ethic and a lifelong love for motors, racing, and competition.
Rick’s passion for racing began early. He spent years watching dirt track and late model car races, proudly attending events all over the country, including the Daytona 500. Many of those miles and memories were shared with his family, traveling together to races and events and building a bond rooted in engines, long roads, and time well spent.
His love of motors later carried into pedal pulling, where Rick became what some would call a legend. Nearly 20 years ago, he purchased Kid Power Pedal Tractor Pulls and brought joy to countless children across the Midwest. Rick grew the business, and hosted more than 125 pulls each year, often hauling three trailers in different directions and traveling long distances to make events happen. He proudly served as Minnesota State President of Pedal Pulling and was widely respected throughout the pulling community for his dedication, leadership, and heart for kids.
Rick worked for Eaton in Belmond and spent time in North Carolina and Kentucky, where he worked on the pit crew for Steve Francis. He later returned to Iowa, working at Featherlite before beginning a 37-year career at Winnebago as a welder, where he remained until his retirement in May 2025.
On May 5, 1990, Rick was united in marriage to Sandra Rae Wogstad at Grace Lutheran Church in Hanlontown. From the moment they met, it was simply meant to be. Together they raised two daughters, Crystal and Katie, and shared 35 years of partnership, laughter, travel, and unwavering support. Rick and Sandra loved traveling together—especially road trips to races and pedal pulls—and in later years, they cherished traveling with their daughters and grandchildren, making memories wherever the road led them.
Rick was deeply committed to his community. He served 30 years as Mayor of Hanlontown, after previously serving on the city council. He played a key role in many local projects, including serving on the Winn-Worth Betco Board and helping bring POET and Diamond Jo Casino to the area. In his younger years, Rick also served on the Hanlontown Fire Department.
Those who knew Rick knew him as stubborn in the best way—fiercely loyal, hardworking, and willing to do anything for anyone. He was caring, genuine, and never afraid to speak his mind. Rick stayed busy—whether landscaping around the house, traveling, working on projects, or cheering on his favorite racers—and lived life at full speed. He remained deeply connected to the racing and pedal pulling communities throughout his life.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Scholbrock; daughters, Crystal (Tony) Brower and Katie (Molly Roling) Scholbrock; grandchildren, Bailey, Brinly, Arianna, Jaxon, Noah, Charlie, and Gracelynn; his mother, Jayne Scholbrock; brother, Troy (Stephanie) Scholbrock; sister-in-law, Janet Taylor; brother-in-law, Mike McAllister; nieces and nephews, Steven (Alyse) McAllister, Jessica (Aaron) Ellensohn, Nathan (Anna Dorrell) McAllister, Erin (Joey) Kappauf, Kenzie McCarroll, Delaney (Duncan Glock) Scholbrock, Saydey (Matt Logeman) Scholbrock, Madalyn (Mike) Franks, and Meggie (Michael) Taylor; aunts, Judy Eggerichs, Ivanell (Sylvester) Zobeck, and Judy Aberg; cherished family friends, Pat Sorenson and Mike Kennedy; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and extended family.
