
CEDAR FALLS – This Northern Iowa man with a long criminal history remains in jail awaiting trial after he fled from police on at least two occasions and finally crashed into a tree.
On June 8, 2025, at approximately 4:17 PM, Cedar Falls Public Safety Officers made contact with a subject parked in front of the Goodwill store, located at 4318 University Avenue. While speaking with officers, the driver fled in his vehicle. The driver refused to stop their vehicle and led officers on a pursuit. The pursuit ended when the driver struck a tree near 7th Street and State Street.
As a result of the incident, 28-year-old Cory Scott Erks of Dunkerton, Iowa, was charged with the following crimes along with several traffic violations:
• Warrants for for previous incidents that include eluding (Class D Felony), reckless driving, failure to obey a traffic control device and failure to use headlamps when required.
Charges from the Cedar Falls Police for the June 8 incident include:
• Eluding – a Class D Felony
• Reckless Driving – a Simple Misdemeanor
• Failure t o Maintain Control – a Simple Misdemeanor
• Interference with Official Acts – a Simple Misdemeanor
Cedar Falls Police were assisted by Black Hawk County Consolidated Dispatch, the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, lowa State Patrol, and Valley Wide Towing.
Immediately following the incident, Erks was charged with violating his parole and was jailed in the Black Hawk county jail, where he remains held to this day. Erks (pictured at top) had been wanted since May when he fled from Hudson, Iowa police and got away, leading to a warrant that he was caught on in June in Cedar Falls. Erks is awaiting a jury trial for Eluding in Cedar Falls; that trial is set for December 30, 2025.
