IOWA CITY – The No. 10 University of Iowa women’s soccer team tied with Michigan, 1-1, on Saturday night at the Iowa Soccer Complex. The Hawkeyes move to 8-2-3 on the season and 3-1-2 in Big Ten conference play.
The first 45-minutes remained scoreless; however, Iowa controlled the first half. Throughout the first 45 minutes the Hawkeyes fired seven shots while holding the Wolverines to just one. Iowa put two shots on goal while Michigan didn’t put any on goal.
Michigan goalkeeper Sophie Homan had two saves in the first half to keep the Hawkeyes off the board. After 45 minutes it was a scoreless tie between the two Big Ten foes.
Michigan would strike first with Jenna Lang giving the Wolverines a, 1-0, advantage in the 60th minute. Lang’s first shot attempt was deflected before she was able to convert on her second shot.
Graduate student Miah Schueller was able to tie the match in the 68th minute on a goal from long distance off a corner kick. It marked the first goal of Schueller’s collegiate career. Junior Abby Skiff was credited for the assist.
Despite the Hawkeyes outshooting the Wolverines, 14-4, in the second half and, 21-5, for the game the match would finish a, 1-1, tie. Sophomore goalkeeper Fernanda Mayrink finished with one save while Homan finished with four.

“I liked how we started. I thought we played a good first half. Ironically, I think we had [seven] shots in the first half, three of which were in the eight-yard box. So, I thought we missed some chances in the first half to go up, 1-0, maybe even, 2-0. I liked our mentality in the second half, we created 14 shots but right now we aren’t clinical enough, we aren’t ruthless enough in the box. I think we’re missing a lot of opportunities to make life a bit easier for us, but I do like how we played. “
MATCH NOTES
The goal from Schueller marked her first career goal.
Tonight was her 66th career game and 41st start as a Hawkeye.
Prior to tonight, Schueller had six career shots including two this season.
Schueller put two shots on goal, leading all players. Prior to tonight she had one career shot on goal which came this season vs. Iowa State.
Iowa outshot the Wolverines, 21-5.
The Hawkeyes finished with six corner kicks, all of which came in the second half.
Michigan didn’t attempt a corner kick.
Seven different Hawkeyes fired a shot.
Schueller and Liana Tarasco led all players with four shots.
The Hawkeyes and Wolverines have tied their last four matches dating back to 2021.
