CHARLES CITY – A vacancy occurred on the Floyd County Board of Supervisors following the death of District 2 Supervisor Dennis Keifer on June 10, 2025, and now his successor must soon be elevated to office.
At the June 17 Floyd county regular Board of Supervisors meeting, the board noted the passing of District 2 Supervisor Dennis Keifer. Supervisors Boyd Campbell and Gloria Carr expressed words of sympathy.
Following the development, the statutory committee (County Treasurer, Auditor, and Recorder) met on Tuesday, June 17, and opted to fill the District 2 Supervisor vacancy by appointment. The committee will reconvene on Monday, July 7, 2025, at 8:30 AM in the Ground Floor Boardroom of the Floyd County Courthouse, 101 S Main St, Charles City, Iowa, to make the appointment.
If no decision is made at that time, the committee will reconvene on Tuesday, July
8, at 8:30 AM. The appointment must be made and the appointee sworn in no later than July 20.
Eligible electors residing in Floyd County Supervisor District 2 have the right to file a petition requesting that the vacancy be filled by special election. To be valid, the petition must contain a minimum of 257 signatures from eligible electors in District 2. The petition must be filed within 14 days of the publication of this notice or within 14 days of the actual appointment, whichever is later.
Eligible electors who reside in Supervisor District 2 and have lived in Floyd County for at least 60 days prior to the appointment are encouraged to apply. Interested individuals may submit a cover letter, a resume, and written responses to the application questions. These questions are available at the Auditor’s Office in the Floyd County Courthouse and on the home page of the Floyd County website at http://www.floydcoia.org. Applicants may also choose to give a public presentation of up to five minutes during the July 7 meeting.
All application materials must be submitted no later than 4:00 PM on July 3, 2025.
