OSAGE – Marijuana is still mostly illegal in Iowa, and a Minnesota couple recently found out that law enforcement here does not play games about enforcing illicit drug laws.
Osage police nabbed a Minnesota couple on the evening of April 18, 2025. At About 9:35 PM at the 3500 block of Lancer Avenue, Officers made contact with 31-year-old Tyler Jordan Schafer and 22-year-old Emma Quaderer Anderson, both of Zimmerman, Minnesota. After an investigation, both were arrested on charges of:
– 124.401(5)(b) POSSESSION-MARIJUANA 1ST
– 124.414 POSS OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA
The pair were held until the next day and released on a promise to appear in court.
The state of Minnesota enacted a new law, effective August 1, 2023, that makes cannabis legal for adults 21 and older to possess and consume.
However, in Iowa, no flower (loose leaf, “joints,” etc.) or THC-infused edibles (“gummies,” chocolates, etc.) are allowed. In May 2017, the Medical Cannabidiol Act was signed into law. It is codified at Iowa Code Chapter 124E and 641 IAC 154. Iowa’s licensed dispensaries began providing medical cannabidiol products to patients on December 1, 2018.
