Dorthee Mayfield, 100, of Mason City, passed away Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Health Center surrounded by family. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Dorthee Mayfield, 100, of Mason City, passed away Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Health Center surrounded by family. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church 213 N. Pennsylvania, with Pastor Beverly Butler officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, KCMR, or Community Kitchen.

Dorothee Olson Mayfield was born on September 26, 1924, in Albert Lea, MN, the daughter of Olendo M. and Laura (Knutson) Olson. She graduated from Gowrie Iowa High School in 1942 and attended Waldorf College. She was bookkeeper at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines from 1943-1946.

She married Duane E. Mayfield on April 30, 1946, in Gowrie, Iowa. They moved to Mason City in 1947, and Tama, Iowa in 1949.

On January 1, 1951, they returned to Mason City, and lived in Cerro Gordo County Jail, where she was jail matron for ten years, and her husband was deputy sheriff. She has been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1951 and was the church secretary for over 40 years. She and her husband owned and operated Demay Air Craft Adj. Co. from 1961 to 1993. Dorthee was a member of the Sons of Norway and the Eastern Star.

Dorthee is survived by her children, Dennis Mayfield, DuAnne (Terry) Whitehurst, Dean Jerry Mayfield, and Darcel (David) Locke; grandchildren, Terry Whitehurst, Jr., Robert Whitehurst, Heather Biedermann, Dustin Mayfield, and Alex Mayfield; great grandchildren, Nick Whitehurst, Nate Whitehurst, Joci Whitehurst, and Kelsi Whitehurst; and great-great grandchildren, Asher and Wren Whitehurst, Camber Whitehurst, Crew Whitehurst, and Racelyn Whitehurst.

Dorthee was preceded in death by her husband, Duane E. Mayfield, her parents, Olendo and Laura Olson; daughter-in-law Jeanette Mayfield, and great-great grandchild, Racer Whitehurst.
