MASON CITY – This repeat felonious Mason City drunk driver that slammed into another car last fall is finally guilty again after a pointless court battle and is now festering behind bars.

Hillary Ann Marie Herman, age 38, is serving a 7-day jail sentence after being booked into the Cerro Gordo county jail late Tuesday night. Herman is a notorious drunk driver, with at least three convictions to her record. In her latest stunt, on the evening of Friday, September 6, 2024, Herman was driving her luxurious 2012 Dodge Ram truck, northbound on Killdeer Avenue at 300th Street in Mason City. In an apparent drunken stupor, Herman entered an intersection in front of a 2013 Toyota Camry with Minnesota passengers, causing a collision that injured two people – but not Herman – and both vehicles were totaled.

An investigation by police led to Herman being hauled off to jail, charged with second-offense operating while intoxicated.

However, Herman declared her innocence and fought the charges in court. Her fruitless endeavor eventually led to a guilty plea. A judge sentenced Herman to 365 days in jail with 358 days suspended. She must pay Iowa courts $2,365.75.

Herman appears to be a convicted felon for her drunk driving shenanigans.  Back in March of 2014, Clear Lake police nabbed her on a charge of felony D third-offense operating while intoxicated. After a guilty plea to that charge, a judge gave her a suspended 5-year prison sentence, 3 years of probation, 30 days in jail and a bill for $4,913.75.

Mason City police nabbed Herman back in 2008 for second-offense operating while intoxicated and after a guilty plea, spent 7 days in jail and got a bill for $2,695.00.
