ELGIN, IOWA – An Iowa truck driver was hurt – and received a ticket – after he rolled his 2020 Freightliner semi into a ditch.

On November 25, 2024, at approximately 1:26 PM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a feed truck that had rolled into the ditch along Acorn Road, north of 200th Street, south of Elgin, Iowa. Upon further investigation the driver of the 2020 Freightliner, Benjamin L. Gutherie, 29, of Hawkeye, was traveling south on Acorn Rd (W55) when he went into the west ditch casing the vehicle to roll onto its passenger side.

Gutherie was transported to Palmer Hospital in West Union, Iowa, and cited by police for failure to maintain control and failure to use safety belt.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Elgin Fire and Ambulance service as well as the Fayette County Roads department and Edgewood Auto and Tire.
