The accident took place on Friday, May 26, 2023, at approximately 3:08 AM. Davenport Police, Fire, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and Medic EMS responded to the I-80 westbound offramp to I-74 eastbound in reference to a single vehicle crash involving a semi.
Initial investigation indicates a semi with a livestock trailer lost control on the exit ramp leaving the roadway coming to rest on its side resulting in the release of approximately 40 head of cattle. The driver, an adult male, sustained fatal injuries. His name was not immediately released.
Shortly after the initial crash, two subsequent crashes occurred involving a semi and a passenger car striking two cattle. The semi sustained minor damage while the passenger car sustained disabling damage. The driver of the semi was uninjured. The driver and sole occupant of the passenger car sustained minor injuries, was evaluated by Medic EMS and was released on scene.
Davenport Police personnel worked in conjunction with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Bettendorf Police Department, Scott County Secondary Roads, Fred’s Towing, Iowa Department of Transportation, and systematically retried livestock.
The offramp from I-80 westbound to I-74 eastbound was closed, and Interstate 80 westbound was closed for approximately two and a half hours.
