DES MOINES – A man is dead and a young suspect from Georgia is behind bars after he allegedly opened fire during an argument to help get his point across.
Des Moines Police Department detectives have made an arrest in this investigation.
19-year-old Atlanta, GA resident Martavius Lamon Green (pictured at top) has been charged with the following
offense:
• Murder – 1st Degree (Class A felony)
Evidence indicates that Green was a guest at 3400 S. Union Street and became involved in an
argument within the home. That argument became physical and the 21-year-old victim intervened.
Evidence indicates that Green struggled with and then shot the victim.
Des Moines Police Department detectives continue to investigate this case.
The trouble began Sunday afternoon as Des Moines Police Department detectives were brought in to investigate the city’s 8th homicide of 2024. On September 1, 2024, at approximately 1:40 PM, Des Moines Police Department patrol officers and Des Moines Fire Department rescue personnel respond to investigate a report of a shooting at
a residence in the 3400 block of South Union Street.
First responders arrived to find a 21-year-old male suffering from gunshot injuries. Des Moines Fire Department medics transported the patient to a local hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, he died at the hospital.
Des Moines Police Department patrol officers located a firearm at the scene. Witnesses were interviewed, evidence examined, and investigative leads followed.
