Elderly Charles City driver leaves road, smashes crosswalk sign, gets fined

CHARLES CITY – An elderly woman driver from Charles City lost control of her car, entered a sidewalk, hit a sign, and now will have to ante up.

According to police, the incident took place on Tuesday, August 21, 2024.
At 6:38 PM that evening, officers with the Charles City police department went to the intersection of 2nd Avenue and North Grand Avenue to investigate an out-of-control driver. Police say 78-year-old Marrian Linde of Charles City missed her turn supposedly due “issues with street lights.” She drove her grey Lincoln onto a sidewalk and struck a crosswalk sign.

As a result of the crash, Linde wasn’t hurt but she was cited for failure to maintain control of a her vehicle. Records show she must pay over $200 in fines and court fees.
