STORM LAKE – A Northern Iowa man is facing numerous charges after he refused to stop for police, drove recklessly and crashed near a cemetery.
On the morning of July 23, 2024, at around 5:30 AM, Storm Lake Police Department officers were involved in a high-speed chase with a suspect who was driving recklessly and endangering the public. In the interest of safety, police made the decision to terminate the pursuit, as they had already identified the driver as 26-year-old Julio Garcia (pictured at top) of Rembrandt, Iowa.
Shortly thereafter, police received reports that the suspect had crashed near the Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta and fled the scene on foot.
“Our staff is always up for some early morning cardio, but he never even gave us a chance,” police mused.
“We have charges and a warm bed at the jail ready for this guy. Your safety is our priority, and we are actively working with the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office to bring him into custody.”
Not long after, Garcia was caught and arrested on numerous charges.
