Sheldon Winel Sherman, 85 of Charles City, passed away early Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at the Iowa IOOF Home in Mason City.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at the Charles City VFW starting at 2:00pm.
Sheldon was born on November 14, 1938 in Osakis, MN the son of John Sheldon and Dorothy (Shippy) Sherman. He graduated from Charles City High School, IA and then joined the Marine Corps for three years, followed by the National Guard. He was united in marriage to Janice Horne, on December 3, 1960 and blessed with three sons.
He worked as a machinist, beginning with John Deere in Waterloo, then joined the Oliver/White Farm team in Charles City for 32 years. After the plant closed Sheldon and Janice owned and operated Sherm’s Place for ten years.
Sheldon had many interests which included; golf, bowling, motorcycles, and snowmobiling. He also loved camping and fishing on the Mississippi, boating, canoeing, and taking many car trips all over the US. He cherished the Kansas City Chiefs, and was a fan of NASCAR. One of the couple’s favorite trips was to Hawaii to see where he was stationed as a Marine.
Sheldon is survived by his wife Janice of 63 years, sons: Todd (Debbie) of Spokane, MO, Tracy (Anne Marie) and Jeff (Dana), all of Charles City; his grandchildren: Heather Sherman, Brian Sherman, Sheldon Sherman Jr., Bailey Koster, Melissa McNulty, Nicole Stoup, Moriah Mitchell, Conor Sherman and eleven great grandchildren.
Preceding him by death are his parents and sister Francis Loomer.
