CHARLES CITY – A Charles City driver without a perfect driving record making an illegal u-turn on a busy street was struck by another driver, leading to citations and thousands in damages.

Police in Charles City say an accident took place on Friday, July 5, 2024. At about 10:36 AM that morning, officers went to the 500 block of Gilbert Street to investigate a two-car collision. They determined that a 30-year-old Kyle Rule of Charles City was driving a 2014 GMC Sierra westbound on Gilbert Street when his pickup struck a 2004 Ford Explorer driven by 22-year-old Jeramiah McCubbin of Charles City. Police say McCubbin was making an illegal u-turn in the middle of Gilbert Street.

As a result of the collision, the GMC suffered $10,000 in damages and the Ford suffered $2,500 in damages. McCubbin was cited for illegal u-turn, no insurance, driving while suspended and a registration violation.

Records show McCubbin is no stranger to driving – and acting – potentially outside the law. In addition to a number of various moving violations, earlier this year, he was guilty of interference with official acts in connection to Waverly police and ordered to pay $347.50 to courts, which is now in collections due to non-payment. In addition, two counts of trespassing this year in Waverly cost him $503.50 and $575.50 – both yet unpaid. In May, McCubbin was busted for fifth-degree theft in Butler county, costing him $120.75 to courts.

In 2022, McCubbin was guilty of interference with official acts in connection to Charles City police, costing him 35 hours of community service and $287.50 to courts. In 2024, possession of marijuana in Charles City landed him in jail for two days and owing courts $908.75 – totally unpaid as of yet.
