Judy Ann Hammarmeister, born on November 23, 1959, received her angel wings on June 12, 2024, at the age of 64, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Judy is lovingly cherished and remembered by her devoted husband of 44 years, Al Hammarmeister. She leaves behind her children, Jesse (Cassie) Hammarmeister and Ashley (Brian) Shea; and her beloved grandchildren, Mia Oppold, Lilly Rush, Kyla Oppold, Hudson Alberts, Isabelle Rush, Cian Hammarmeister, Veda Hammarmeister, and Tallulah Hammarmeister. Judy is also survived by her brothers, sisters, and many nieces and nephews.

Family was everything to Judy. Being a grandmother, affectionately known as “Mema,” was her absolute favorite role. She adored her grandchildren and always put them first. After retiring from a fulfilling 30+ year career in the HR/Accounting field, Judy and the love of her life, Al, embarked on many road trips together. Judy loved riding her motorcycle with Al and exploring new places.

Judy had a passion for camping, which evolved from the early days of tent camping with Jesse and Ashley—marked by fits and complaints—to the comfort of a camper. Judy and Al welcomed their grandchildren on these camping trips, creating treasured memories full of laughter and adventure.

Judy had a heart of gold and a spirit that chased sunsets, whether from her motorcycle or her porch, which she fondly called her “happy place.” Her family holds dear the wonderful memories and the joy she brought into their lives.

A celebration of Judy’s life will be held Monday, June 17th 2024 with a short service held at 2:30 PM at Surls Funeral Home. Visitation will follow from 3-5pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests [donations/memorial contributions] be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, which was close to Judy’s heart.

Judy’s legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

We know she is embracing her best friend and mother, Tena and smiling down on all of us.

May we all cherish every sunset and find joy in each sunrise.
