ANAMOSA, IOWA – A tragic mis-hap while sledding claimed the life of an Iowa boy in this rural Northern Iowa area.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place on January 10, 2024, at 11:32 AM at 13552 Buffalo Road, northwest of Anamosa. At this time and location, a 2008 GMC Envoy driven by 49-year-old David Thomas of Anamosa was northbound on Buffalo Road as a child on a sled was going downhill westbound and crossed in front of the vehicle. The child, later identified as 13-year-old Adam McWherter was struck and severely injured. He was hospitalized, but tragically later died on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, according to an obituary.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident is under investigation.
