
CEDAR RAPIDS – An Iowa bank was robbed earlier this month by a suspect in a Hawkeye cap and now cops have nabbed him hundreds of miles south.
Cedar Rapids Police investigated a bank robbery at Cedar Rapids Bank and Trust, located at 5400 Council Street NE. The incident was reported at approximately 9:13 AM on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. A white male suspect displayed a handgun during the robbery. No one was injured during the robbery. The suspect was described as a white male, approximately five-feet, ten-inches tall, with a slender build. He was last seen wearing a gray or green coat, work gloves, a Hawkeye knit cap and a black mask.
Later, Cedar Rapids Police Investigators and the Federal Bureau of Investigation identified 21-year-old Andrew Derr as the suspect in the armed robbery. Derr (pictured above) was arrested on January 24, 2024 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and is in custody at the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office. Arrangements will be made for Derr’s transport back to Cedar Rapids’ local jurisdiction to face charges.
