MASON CITY – A reception was held on the afternoon of January 5 to celebrate as over 60 years of experience retired from the fire department with the departure of two fire captains.
According to a statement from the Mason City Fire Department:
We bid farewell to two dedicated individuals who have left an indelible mark on the Mason City Fire Department. Captain Steve Bull and Captain Dave Orr, thank you for your combined 60 years of unwavering service. Your commitment to serving the community has been nothing short of remarkable.
Over the years, Captains Bull and Orr have witnessed and actively contributed to a dramatic evolution of our fire department. From adapting to advancements in technology, integrating an ambulance service, and they have trained the next generation of firefighters, their leadership has been instrumental. It’s also noteworthy that during their tenure, the department saw a substantial increase in calls, from approximately 900 to 6500 calls annually. Through these changes, their dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community and their fellow firefighters has remained steadfast. Wishing both Captains a well-deserved, relaxing and fulfilling retirement. Your leadership will stand as an example to all aspiring officers for years to come.
