DES MOINES – A Des Moines-area businesswoman is vying to unseat Joni Ernst from the U.S. Senate.
Theresa Greenfield of Windsor Heights, Iowa, says on her campaign website that she “is running for U.S. Senate because it’s time Iowans had a leader who will fight for their values. Theresa Greenfield is running for U.S. Senate because it’s time Iowans had a senator who will expand access to affordable health care, stand up for Medicare and Social Security, and fight for quality education. Iowans deserve a senator who shares our values, not Mitch McConnell’s.
“I’m a farm kid with farm kid values ready to fight for working people,” Greenfield claimed on Twitter. She has already run for the House, previously, but had to drop out of the race.
Republican Joni Ernst is finishing her first term in the Senate. She is famous for her moniker “make ’em squeal” and for claiming to wear bread sacks on her feet as a child.
Iowans deserve a Senator who is ACTUALLY going to fight for them, and put the people of our great state first. I’m a farm kid with farm kid values ready to fight for working people. That’s why I’m running for US Senate.

Iowa GOP Chairman Jeff Kaufmann attacked Greenfield immediately Monday after her announcement, saying “Theresa Greenfield is an urban real estate executive, but you wouldn’t guess that from watching this obnoxious video. Everything about Greenfield is fake, and I expect her fraudulent campaign to implode just like her last run for Congress.”
There are two other Democratic challengers to Ernst, so far.
