Kathryn D. Ratzel, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Manly Specialty Care Center, Manly, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring when the flowers are in bloom.

Kay was born August 5, 1935 in West Gardener, Maine, the daughter of Clarence and Bertha (Flewelling) Lawson. She graduated from High School in Maine and graduated from Pacific Union College, Angwin, California, with a degree in teaching in 1973. In 1955 she married William Ratzel and together they had two children, Barbara and Robert.

Being a military wife she traveled Europe extensively and visited parts of Africa before returning to the states to start her life as a teacher. Kay touched many students’ lives as a teacher in many different states. An extension of her love of teaching she gave bible studies and brought many to Jesus. As a fourth generation Adventist she had a great love of Jesus and wants to be remembered as a friend of Jesus.

Kay enjoyed gardening, bird watching, baking and playing solitaire. She also loved spending time with her family and friends.

Those left to cherish memories of Kay are her children, Barbara Figgins and Robert (Jackie) Ratzel; four grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Clarence Lawson Jr; and special friend, Theresa Green.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents.
