THORNTON – A Thornton man tried leaving town, but a deer forced him to put his vehicle in a creek, leading to an ambulance ride.
On August 25, 2023, at 7:19 AM, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a single vehicle accident with injuries. On scene, Deputies discovered the accident had happened in the afternoon hours on August 24, 2023. Â The driver, Nathan Benjegerdes, age 21 of Thornton, was northbound on 5th Street North leaving Thornton when his vehicle left the roadway while attempting to avoid a deer. Benjegerdes’ vehicle entered a wooded area before coming to rest in a creek.
Benjegerdes was transported to Mercy One North Iowa by the Mason City Fire Department with apparent non-life threatening injuries.
No foul play is suspected.
