FAYETTE COUNTY - A Northern Iowa man, who police say was intoxicated, drove into a construction zone and collided with a semi, landing him in jail.

FAYETTE COUNTY – A Northern Iowa man, who police say was intoxicated, drove into a construction zone and collided with a semi, landing him in jail.

On June 12, 2023 at 8:44 AM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s office took a 911 call of a two-vehicle accident two miles west of West Union on Hwy 18 in a construction zone. Once deputies arrived, they discovered that a Ford truck pulling a horse trailer had failed to stop at the construction zone and struck a semi truck in the rear of the trailer. The driver of the truck, Randy Paul Burgart, age 70 of New Hampton, Iowa was also found to be intoxicated.

Burgart was arrested for operating while intoxicated 2nd offence and following to close. He was transported to the Fayette County Jail and awaits a court appearance.
